In the summer of 2023, while Dad was still living in his flat at Sarum Lodge in Salisbury, he wanted to make sure I (Martin) recognised all the people in his photo album.

Over the course of several visits, we flipped through the album, and I recorded his narration on my phone. I originally intended to transcribe them, but now, almost by accident, we have a record of him speaking about his memories.

Sometimes the audio is less than perfect, but it feels more useful to have this online rather than having the physical album sitting on a bookshelf quietly gathering dust.

Sometimes there were notes made on the back of photos or in the album and I've included them here.

There are conflicting dates, failing memory and illegible handwriting - I've done my best to guess or inserted ??'s where I can't really tell.

The photos are grouped by page in the physical album and the audio is specific to that particular page. As you listen to the audio, you need to click on the next photo. Use the arrows either side of the main photo to navigate between pages. It's a bit clunky, but about as clunky as a photo album :)

You can search and browse by tag using the search icon in the toolbar at the top of the page.

If you'd like a copy any of the photos, just right-click and download, and you should get a high-quality version. If you'd like a copy of everything, download the 175Mb zip file here.
